Abstract "Medical terminology is a way of communicating in medical and allied health worlds. It is largely memorization as this is a new language that uses combinations of word parts to accurately explain a given condition or description of medical issue. This textbook will put a bit of fun in navigating the new language by using Skully who is sailing between his islands (combining forms) to explore the various word and word parts to help students direct their learning. The purpose of this text is to become to become educated and comfortable with medical learning. There are plenty of textbooks that offer more detail in certain chapters. This specific text will launch students with enough information to communicate effectively with medical professionals. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of medical term (we have medical dictionaries for that), but instead it will get students interested in learning medical language and understanding various word parts. This textbook is not to replace an anatomy and physiology course, nor is it a medical/pathology class. Medical terminology textbooks are primarily dictionaries that are organized in a manner to facilitate learning. Rather than just list word, word components (prefixes and suffixes), and their meanings alphabetically, this textbook is organized in body systems to facilitate learning"-- Provided by publisher.
